Endometriosis is a disorder where the endometrium, the tissue that lines a uterus, grows outside of the uterus. This growth can involve the fallopian tubes, ovaries, in the lining of the pelvis, and even in some cases further out in the body. The disorder can cause incredibly painful pelvic pain, particularly during menstrual periods. Some of the symptoms of endometriosis include dysmenorrhea, pain during intercourse, pain during urination or bowel movements, excessive menstrual bleeding, and at times, infertility. The pain that comes with endometriosis can also vary and is not a proper indicator of the extent of the disorder’s progress.

There is no exact specific cause for endometriosis. Some possibilities include embryonic cell transformation, surgical scarring, the transformation of peritoneal cells (the cells that line the inner abdomen), retrograde menstruation, and immune system disorders. Endometriosis has also been observed to possibly be hereditary. It has also been observed that there is a higher rate of the occurrence of ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, there is no cure for endometriosis and treatment consists of treating the patient’s symptoms.

According to Dr. Alevtina Kamneva of the Eastern Tallinn Central Hospital in Estonia, it is estimated that between 2–10% of women within the fertile age are affected by endometriosis. Although the disease is chronic it has also been observed that it is rarely especially aggressive, and a quarter of women diagnosed have no complaints. Doctors in Estonia are recently starting their first steps into successfully finding the causes of endometriosis.

Care.Wallet is a digital health solution that can be easily configured to help a patient manage their endometriosis and treatments effectively, but it also gives them greater safety and privacy when it comes to their healthcare journey. Patients can keep track of their symptoms and note to their doctor what may be causing them, what aggravates their symptoms, and also easily receive the care and knowledge they need. If experiencing unexpected symptoms, a patient can book an appointment with a few clicks directly in the App. If a patient needs a ride to the facility, Care.Wallet has got them covered with a medical transportation solution embedded. If it’s not possible to have an in-office visit, Care.Wallet allows for booking online appointments via Global Telehealth Exchange.

Care.Wallet can also be a useful tool for improving your quality of life in general, and other patient-related outcomes during long term treatment care. With Care.Wallet the patient doesn’t have to worry about preparing for the appointment, as all their previous medical records are securely stored in their Care.Wallet and can be shared with all members of their care team in real-time. On top of that, Care.Wallet allows for symptom recording and management. Armed with all the necessary information, medical professionals can better evaluate the health condition of the patient and diagnose the problem. Prescriptions and referrals can be easily managed within the App as well. Care.Wallet has a comprehensive feedback function, called “How Are You Feeling Today” (HAYFT) Cards, that allows the patient to stay in touch with their care provider and report any changes to their health condition. With this, their physicians can easily provide advice quickly. In addition, the Care Circle functionality provides an opportunity for the patient to have health information exchanged between all care professionals involved in their treatment. Family and friends can be invited to join their Care Circle, as well to support the patient in their recovery and stay updated about their current health situation.

Care.Wallet is a powerful health management tool designed to offer a new improved standard of care and will improve the way healthcare works by putting patients in control of their health management. If you enjoyed this article, do take a look at our previous article Venereal Disease in Venezuela.
